My Takes
Highland Mist by Donna Grant was a solid 3.5-star read for me. It had everything I usually enjoy in a Highland romance: rugged warriors, danger, clan drama, protective energy, and a strong heroine trying to survive in a harsh world.
The atmosphere was probably my favorite part of the book. Donna Grant does a great job creating that misty, dramatic Scottish Highlands feel that makes you want to wrap yourself in a blanket and fully disappear into the story. The setting, the clan politics, and the danger surrounding Elena kept things interesting throughout.
Broc definitely delivered on the protective Highland warrior energy. He is strong, loyal, and determined, and I enjoyed watching him slowly break through Elena’s walls. Elena herself was easy to root for because of everything she had endured, and I liked that she had strength without constantly needing to prove it.
That said, while I enjoyed the romance, it did not completely sweep me away emotionally. Some parts felt a little predictable, and I found myself wanting just a bit more depth and tension between the characters. The pacing also slowed down for me in a few places, especially in the middle.
Overall, though, this was still an enjoyable historical romance with plenty of danger, longing, and Highland charm. If you love Scottish warriors, protective heroes, hidden secrets, and medieval romance vibes, this is definitely worth picking up.
